The Path of Least Resistance

My teacher often says to me ‘To struggle is to lose’. One of the most accurate statements I’ve ever heard. Of course, at first I tried to prove this wrong, I’m human after all, but the more I searched for some fault in the logic, the more I realized it is true.

Unfortunately, we all like to paddle up river from time to time. Maybe to prove how strong we are, or maybe just because we like to feel we have accomplished something. I’m one of the biggest culprits for this. However, I’ve learnt recently that this isn’t necessary. I made a comment in a previous post that ‘Nothing worthwhile is never easy’ and I still stand by that quote but what I am starting to discover is that whilst worthwhile and fulfilling moments in life don’t often come without some effort, the majority of tough situations we find ourselves in could have been avoided.

Sometimes we all need to give in and take the path of least resistance and herein lies the paradox. Sometimes taking this path is actually harder to do, most commonly because of ego (a huge subject which I’ll attempt to explore in future posts). Men especially (I am one so I’m well within my rights to call us men out on this one) often have huge ego’s that would never allow them to be seen to fail. The funny thing is, to ‘give in’ or ‘not resist’ does not mean ‘to fail’, in fact more often than not, the person who does not resist comes away unscathed whereas the person who struggles is not so lucky.

To give in is not a sign of weakness, it’s a form of strength. It’s using your mind instead of your muscles, your serenity instead of your rage. Don’t walk head long into the wind. Simply sidestep the gale…
